Overview

This article discusses setting a company-wide default caller ID and on the user level by way of the mobile and desktop apps. Plus, it also contains a section on how to manually choose a user ID for calls.

It contains the following sections:

Setting a Company-Wide Default Caller ID

This can be done by any Admin user on the Account Portal and will be displayed as the default caller ID for all calls. Please see the Additional Information section for exceptions on numbers that cannot be used as caller IDs.

  1. Navigate to Phone Numbers > Manage Phone Numbers
  2. Click on the field What caller ID should show when I call someone?
  3. Select Always show the default caller ID.

Select a caller ID relevant to the person being called

If you have phone numbers from multiple countries, you can configure your Spoke Phone account to always try and select a number to use as a caller ID that is relevant to the person being called.

Example: Location-relevant caller ID selection

Scenario:
Your default caller ID is an Australian landline, but you also have several
NZ landlines and a US landline.
For the field what caller ID should show when you call someone, you have selected: a number relevant to the
person being called.

Caller ID selection:
- When calling an NZ number, Spoke Phone will select one of your NZ landlines to use as your
outbound caller ID.

- When calling a US number, Spoke Phone will select your US number to use as outbound caller ID.
- If you call a country for which you have no number, Spoke Phone will use your default outbound caller ID.

To turn on location-relevant caller ID selection:

  1. Navigate to Phone Numbers > Manage Phone Numbers
  2. Click on the field What caller ID should show when I call someone?
  3. Select A number relevant to the person being called (or default caller ID)

Setting a Caller ID for a User (DDI)

When a user is assigned a DDI number, they can set this as their outbound caller ID and will override the company default.

  • Select settings on the Desktop or Mobile app.
  • Select My Caller ID
  • Select Always show customers my Direct Dial number. (DDI/DID) option.

Manually Selecting a Caller ID

  • Tap and hold any button that you normally use to make a Spoke Phone call (within call history, the dial-pad, or your directory).
  • After holding for ~1 sec, the call options screen will open.
  • Select the number you wish to use as your caller ID.
  • As soon as you select a number, the call will start.
  • The call will be placed using that number.

Additional Information

  • When returning an inbound call from call history in your app, Spoke Phone will automatically use whichever of your numbers the caller originally dialed, as the outbound caller ID for your return call.
    • Note: If the caller originally dialed a number that cannot be used as caller ID (i.e. Australian 1300/1800 numbers) the default caller ID will be used.
  • In Australia, it is illegal to use 13/1300/1800 numbers as outbound caller ID. Any calls using these numbers as caller ID will not connect.
  • When manually selecting a caller ID, only numbers not assigned to users as DDI can be selected.
