How to set up your company default caller ID settings

Overview

By default, the number that people see when you call them from Spoke Phone is set by your company administrator and is known as the default caller ID. This article will show you how to set up and configure the default caller ID rules for your company.

It contains the following sections:

Select a default outbound caller ID

  1. Login to your Spoke Phone account portal online.
  2. Navigate to phone numbers > manage phone numbers.
  3. Click on the field Default Caller ID: What number should be shown to callers ...
  4. Choose the number you wish to show by default when your users make outbound calls from the Spoke Phone app.
Note:
In Australia, it is illegal to use 13/1300/1800 numbers as outbound caller ID.

Select a caller ID relevant to the person being called

If you have phone numbers from multiple countries, you can configure your Spoke Phone account to always try and select a number to use as caller ID that is relevant to the person being called.

Example: Location-relevant caller ID selection

Scenario:
Your default caller ID is an Australian landline, but you also have several
NZ landlines and a US landline.
For the field what caller ID should show when you call someone, you have selected: a number relevant to the
person being called.

Caller ID selection:
- When calling an NZ number, Spoke Phone will select one of your NZ landlines to use as your
outbound caller ID.

- When calling a US number, Spoke Phone will select your US number to use as outbound caller ID.
- If you call a country for which you have no number, Spoke Phone will use your default outbound caller ID.

To turn on location-relevant caller ID selection:

  1. Navigate to Phone Numbers > Manage Phone Numbers
  2. Click on the field What caller ID should show when I call someone?
  3. Select A number relevant to the person being called (or default caller ID)

Alternatively, if you do not have phone numbers from multiple countries, or you always want to show the same default caller ID:

  1. Navigate to Phone Numbers > Manage Phone Numbers
  2. Click on the field What caller ID should show when I call someone?
  3. Select Always show the default caller ID.

Exceptions

  • Users can manually override the default company caller ID settings, by manually selecting a caller ID as they make a call.
  • When returning an inbound call from call history in your app, Spoke Phone will automatically use whichever of your numbers the caller originally dialed, as the outbound caller ID for your return call.
    • Note: If the caller originally dialed a number that cannot be used as caller ID (i.e. Australian 1300/1800 numbers) the default caller ID will be used.
  • Users with a phone number assigned to them as a DDI (direct-dial-in) can opt to always show their DDI as their default caller ID.
