Push Notification Diagnostic Test Plan

Test 1: Basic Notification Check

  • Lock your phone or iPad
  • Have someone send you a message (or trigger a notification from the app)
  • Expected result: Notification appears on lock screen
  • If it works: Problem solved! If not, continue to Test 2.

Test 2: Check Phone-Level Do Not Disturb

  • Go to your phone's main Settings
  • Find "Do Not Disturb" or "Focus" mode (iPhone) / "Do Not Disturb" (Android)
  • Check if it's enabled - if yes, turn it off temporarily
  • Repeat Test 1
  • If it works now: Configure DND to allow notifications from your app. If still not working, continue to Test 3.

Test 3: Check Phone-Level Notification Settings

  • Go to Settings → Notifications (iPhone) or Settings → Apps & Notifications (Android)
  • Find the Spoke app in the list
  • Verify notifications are enabled
  • Check that Lock Screen notifications are allowed
  • Check notification style is not set to "None" or "Silent"
  • Repeat Test 1
  • If it works now: Problem solved! If not, continue to Test 4.

Test 4: Go Off Wifi and test on cell data

Test 5: Reinstall Notification Permissions

  • Uninstall the Spoke app completely
  • Restart your phone / iPad
  • Reinstall the app
  • When prompted, allow notifications
  • Repeat Test 1
  • If it works now: Problem solved! If not, contact support with your test results.

Quick checklist to provide with results:

  • Phone model and OS version
  • Which tests passed/failed
  • Whether notifications work from other apps
  • Whether the app badge icon updates (if applicable)
